β€œA Community Leader’s Fight to Save a Childhood”

Darsalam Ahmed, a women’s community leader in Gurei North, Juba County, took action to stop a case of forced child marriage involving a 13-year-old girl. The girl sought help after her grandfather arranged to marry her off to an older man in order to repay debts. These debts stemmed from the girl’s mother, who had herself been married off at a young age and later fled her marital home after giving birth, leaving her daughter behind.
