🌱 Transforming Vision into Community Impact: Launching a Sustainable Skills Initiative in Kabu

We are proud to announce the official launch of a collaborative women’s empowerment and skills development initiative in the Kabu community, Juba, a project born from partnership, purpose, and shared commitment to sustainable change.

This initiative began with a meaningful connection between our CEO and a passionate social entrepreneur specializing in the creation of recycled paper beads. What emerged was a clear vision: to equip women in Juba with valuable, eco-friendly skills that promote both economic independence and environmental consciousness.

That vision became reality this week, as the project was formally launched in a community ceremony presided over by the Kabu Community Chief and the Women’s Leader of Kabu, with steadfast support from WOJE staff on the ground.

Driving this project forward is an exceptional team of Mastercard Foundation Scholars from United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa), who are implementing the training as part of their Community Action Project (CAP). We extend our gratitude to the dedicated scholars leading this effort:

- Hayat John Kenyi - BSc International Business Administration

- Ayella David - BSc International Business Administration

- Sebit Justine Lavirick - BSc Accounting

- Faiza Patrick Logo - BSc Finance

- Jennefer John Malachi - BSc Data Science & Analytics

- Yar Deng - BSc Data Science & Analytics

On Day One, 36 women gathered to embark on this journey. The session focused on:

βœ… Introducing project goals and building a shared sense of purpose

βœ… Facilitating personal introductions and expectation-sharing

βœ… Using storytelling to foster trust and connection

βœ… Distributing learning materials and forming collaborative small groups

βœ… Establishing community-agreed guidelines for an empowering learning environment

This initiative represents more than skill transfer, it is about fostering agency, creativity, and sustainable livelihoods while promoting environmental stewardship through recycling.

We are inspired by the collective energy of our partners, the scholars, and the women of Kabu. Together, we are weaving a stronger, more resilient community - one bead, one skill, and one story at a time.
