By the Executive Director, Women for Justice and Equality (WOJE)

As we commemorate International Women's Day 2026, we stand united with women and girls across the world under the banner "Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls." This year's theme echoes deeply within South Sudan, where countless women and girls continue to bear the scars visible and invisible of conflict-related violence.
At Women for Justice and Equality, we mark this day not merely with celebration, but with renewed determination. We amplify our call for justice for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, a crisis that remains one of the most devastating and unaddressed legacies of war. Survivors' voices must not only be heard; they must shape the path to peace, accountability, and healing.
Justice is more than a courtroom verdict. It is the assurance that survivors can rebuild their lives with dignity, access psychosocial support, and live free from stigma and fear. It is ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based crimes are held accountable under both national and international law. And it is demanding institutional reforms that protect women and girls in times of peace as well as in conflict.
Today, we honor the resilience of South Sudanese women and girls who continue to demand their rights amidst adversity. We also acknowledge the courageous human rights defenders, legal practitioners, and community advocates who stand with survivors every day. Their tireless work brings hope where pain once prevailed.
As an organization, WOJE reaffirms its commitment to champion legal reform, strengthen survivor-centered justice mechanisms, and advocate for reparations and inclusive peace processes. True peace cannot exist without justice and justice cannot exist without women's voices at the center.
On this International Women's Day, let us each take action policy makers, community leaders, and citizens alike to build a nation where every woman and girl enjoys her full rights, equal justice, and lasting protection.
